Last week, we tried out a 2 new wineries in Lake Co. With summer at its end, it is more fun wine tasting with less people. Autumn is a relaxed time with the grapes almost harvestedm and some reds still hanging on the vines waiting for sugars to increase with the last remaining sunny days for those flavorful reds we "red wine lovers" enjoy. The Sigma Six is a small winery off Hwy 29 between Lower Lake and Hidden Valley. Enjoyed the 2 miles of gravel road up in the verdant hills of Lake County - a small herd of sheep and flocks of wild turkeys on the way. The wine tasting room, a renovated coach house orig. built on property in 1800s, a coach line to Sacramento. Six different grapes grown on 100 acreas, surrounded by 4300 acreas of wooded hills and valleys purchased 12 years ago by a couple from from Denmark. We choose 2 favorites to take home, a Sav. Blanc 2006, dry with a refreshing finish & a Cuvee Pique-nique 2006 - a deep purple red Bordeaux-style blend, rich notes of blackberry, bluberry, dk chocolate, a finish of coffee & spices. We joined their wine club & got 20% off. They ship out of area too. Second we went to Brassfields in High Valley, the hills above Clearlake Oaks on Hwy 20. With beautiful views of Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti up High Valley Rd. The estate was once a horse ranch now splendid spanish-style restoration surrounded by old oak trees and expansive lawns. A first class wine tasting room is under construction so we tasted on oak barrels in the plaza. Joined their club as well and took home the Monte Sereno Zin 2004, "Father forgive me for I have zinned", the Volcano Ridge Petite Sirah 2005, excellent & a Sauv. Blanc Serenity, a perfect sipping wine, not sweet/not dry - just delightful. Waiting for you Todd to enjoy with us.

Hi, Lake County wine lovers, today I want to share a nice local find. A few weeks ago Belva mentioned Red Lava Tempranillo 2006 and its delicious characteristics, $23; and I mentioned having tried Red Lava Syrah, $21. Red Lava also does a Sauvignon Blanc which I found to be citrus crisp and tropical perfection, $14. Tasting Room is south of Kit's Corner on 29.

Hi, Chris. Welcome to our Lake County group!! Tell us us some things about the wines you found along the Amalfi Coast. We have a winery here in Lake Co. that is supposed to be "old world", Rosa D' Oro. The family roots are generations of Italians.

O.K. Lake Co. members lets rally and invite some more of our friends to the site!! Here is my wine tip for today: Guenoc (label) lake county Petite Sirah. Comes from a 400 acre vineyard in the Guenoc Valley of Buttes Canyon Road. Can be found on store shelves in Lake county and beyond. Blackberries, plums, licorice and moderate tannins on my palate. Perfect.
