Enjoy Your Wine

In most of our endeavors in life, we commonly seek out sage advice from someone either older, wiser, more well informed, trustworthy, or some combination thereof. When it comes to wine, who's advice do you seek? Do you ask the shop employee? Sort of a coin toss there as to whether that person knows anything about wine or is about to explain the grape inside out. Friends? What do they know? Do you take the advice of a friend with some tie to the industry or the one who seems to be drinking wine all the time? Do you search for forums where it's anybody's guess as to the level of expertise...
Sort of thought we could rate them in order of most inclined to ask for help, to never ask for help. And are they helpful? Is it situational? Share your thoughts!

I've always leaned towards having staff of wherever I happen to be drinking/buying be my guiding light. That being said, I've been taken on some expensive, not so worthy trips at more than one table.
If it's a place that I know, or even better, a place that knows me & my tastes - I've found that I learn a lot more by having them chose for me than just picking blind.
When you bring into the mix the ordering of a glass instead of a bottle, I'm always asking (am I admitting to being THAT tacky lady???) what are the most popular on the list. Unless there's some sort of explanation of how long the BTG wines are shelved post opening, I have a tendency to fear the worst.

I rarely ask anyone's opinion on wine. I usually ask questions like, "Is this rose bone dry", "Is this Vouvray off-dry?" "Is this a warm region?" But then, I rarely buy wine retail at over $20 if I don't already know something good about it. Who do you ask Kiki?

I ask the little wine fairies floating around from bottle to bottle. They usually tell me which is the most delicious wine to have.

Actually, I ask generic questions - usually "what do you think about this wine?" Or "What do you know about it?" I like to see if they have anything interesting to tell me or not. If I get excited, then I will ask about another bottle, if they have no idea what they are talking about and giving me the intro to wine answer then I won't be asking about anything else. Unless there is a general question I can ask that will help me figure out if it's what I want or not.
